Wine & Food Pairing Dinners, Speldhurst

The Wine Dinners Series is held at my home in Speldhurst, Tunbridge Wells where I prepare freshly cooked meals to pair up with wines selected from local retailers.  The aim of these evenings is to try some different wines and foods in a relaxed and comfortable setting where you will pick up tips and advice on wine and more specifically on food and wine matching.  These evenings are limited to a maximum of 12 guests and following a drinks reception generally 6 different wines are enjoyed with a minimum of 5 food courses.

AVAILABILITY CORRECT AS OF OCTOBER 10:

English Wines for Food SOLD OUT

Friday October 11, 7.30pm, 18 Roopers, Speldhurst, £60 per person

The success of the English wine scene is very much attributed to Sparkling Wines at the moment and while this dinner will include some fizz, we will also work our way through some exciting white, red and dessert wines paired with dishes from some great British chefs (but cooked by me!).

Wines for Christmas Dinner SOLD OUT

November 29, 7.30pm, 18 Roopers, Speldhurst, £60 per person

Relax and enjoy some wine and food inspiration ready for the festive season.  I will be selecting some vinous delights to pair up with some of the traditional flavours of Christmas but, as usual, there will be something a little different served too.

Wine School at The Secret Cellar Bar, Tunbridge Wells (scroll down for Forest Row)

The Wine School is a series of tutored wine tastings I run at the Secret Cellar Bar in Tunbridge Wells.  The evenings give guests the opportunity to learn more about wine in a relaxed and informal setting.  Please see below for details of the tasting programme for the second half of 2019:

AVAILABILITY CORRECT AS OF OCTOBER 10:

September 18, The Sustainable, Organic and Biodynamic Wine Scene

£35 per person

For decades wines have been made from grapes grown using both organic and biodynamic farming methods.  Increasingly winemakers are also using organic practices in the winery as well as the vineyards.  In addition, there is currently a big focus on sustainable grape growing & winemaking, taking into consideration the environmental, economic and social impact of wine production.  This tasting will look into exactly what organic, biodynamic and sustainable wine production really mean and, very importantly, we’ll be tasting a lovely range of wines made using these practices.

October 2, Northern Italy, £35 per person SOLD OUT

Italy is one of the more complex wine regions of the world with a plethora of indigenous grape varieties to offer.  Producing wines such as Barolo, Barbera, Amarone, Valpolicella and some very fine Pinot Gris, the cooler, northern section of Italy has many contrasting styles to offer. We will cover the key areas of Piemonte in the north-west and Veneto and Friuli-Venezie Giulia in the north-east.

November 13, Wines for Cheese Part 2, £40 per person SOLD OUT

This is the follow up to our wine and cheese evening in April this year and is back by popular demand, with some more exciting cheeses to taste with specially selected wines.  Wines and cheeses are often enjoyed together but we are not always getting the most out of this classic pairing.  For example, white wines often work better with softer and more pungent cheeses; dessert and fortified wines are prefect foils for blue cheeses and red wines with a high tannin content can clash with the high salt levels in cheese.  This is the perfect opportunity for wine and cheese fans to taste some new flavour combinations and pick up lots of cheese and wine pairing tips.

December 4, Wines for Christmas, £40 per person 2 PLACES AVAILABLE

Relax and enjoy tasting a special line up of wines before the manic build up to Christmas truly begins.  I will choose a range of wines that will suit the occasions and foods we enjoy over the festive season.  Expect to taste sparkling wine, a range of whites and reds and something fortified/sticky.

November 14, Australia, £35 per person, 10 PLACES AVAILABLE

Re-discover Australia.  Around a quarter of the wines we buy in UK shops are from Australia.  Much of this wine is bought in supermarkets.  This tasting will demonstrate the quality and diversity that smaller Australian producers have to offer in the specialist wine store sector.  We’ll be tasting wines from cooler areas, including a Shiraz that won’t overwhelm you and some stunning whites.
